Twenty-eight people attended the brown bag lunch and discussion session at Regis University on May 25, 2006. Participants introduced themselves and told the group about an instruction technique that they find successful and what they find to be their greatest challenge in library instruction. In the afternoon, Lyda Ellis gave a demonstration of the blog she developed for the LIB 150 class at University of Northern Colorado and shared some interesting web sites. Lorrie Evans of the Auraria Library demonstrated a Camtasia tutorial that she created that answers the question, “How do I find my textbook?” Informal discussion sessions were followed by a planning meeting. The next gathering of the Library Instruction Interest Group will be hosted by Annie Epperson at University of Northern Colorado in August. Photos from the meeting are posted on the web site http://www.cal-webs.org/li.html.
Ideas from the planning meeting:
*Meet a few times a year: at the Annual CAL Conference in the Fall (November this year), in May, and in August
*Meet once in Denver and once in northern or southern Colorado
*Keep at least one meeting informal
*Wear Library Instruction Interest Group badges at the Annual CAL Conference
*Have purple and red caps
*Piggyback onto the spring workshop of another group (such as CoALA or CASL)
*Have a blog or wiki. Martin Garnar volunteered to do this for the group.
*Include links to information members would like to share on the CAL Library Instruction Interest Group web page
*Contribute articles to a Colorado Libraries issue on library instruction. Lyda Ellis will send a message to the CoLIG listserv with more information about the library instruction issue of Colorado Libraries.
*Build a skills directory
*Spotlight a library
*Send out a members directory as a Word document. Jan volunteered to e-mail it to the group.
*Post information on the web site http://cal-webs.org/li.html (handouts, recommended web sites, news, etc.). Please send information for the web page to Jan (jlturner@regis.edu)
